Description
The Yanmar 129A00-55800-HD is the genuine OEM heavy duty fuel filter for Yanmar common rail diesel engines, including the 3JH40, 4JH45, 4JH57, 4JH80 and 4JH110 marine engines and the 4TNV98 industrial family. The filter body is marked “Heavy Duty, Ultra High Efficiency”, which is the higher specification version of this filter rather than the standard element.
Why fuel filtration matters on a common rail engine
Common rail injection runs at pressures far above older mechanical systems, and the injectors are machined to tolerances measured in microns. Water and fine particulate are what kill them. A single contaminated fuel load can cost you a set of injectors, so the fuel filter is the cheapest insurance on the engine. This filter traps microscopic particles, dirt and water before they reach the high pressure pump and injectors.
Fuel quality in the islands
If you are taking on fuel at different marinas, or the boat sits for long periods between trips, expect water and sediment in the tank. Condensation alone will put water in a half empty tank. Filters work harder here than the service schedule assumes, so inspect at every service rather than waiting for the hour meter, and carry a spare aboard.
Supersession
The HD version replaces the earlier 129A00-55800. If your manual or a previous invoice lists that number, this is the current filter.
Fitting
Replace at the interval given in your Yanmar operator’s manual for your engine and duty cycle. Fit a new sealing ring, lightly oil it, hand tighten until the gasket seats, then tighten the additional amount specified in the manual. Bleed the fuel system afterwards following the procedure for your engine, then run it and check for leaks and for air in the system.
