Description

The Yanmar 129574-55711 is a genuine OEM spin-on fuel filter for the Yanmar 4JH2, 4JH3 and 4JH4 series marine diesel engines. It traps water and fine particulate before they reach the injection pump and injectors.

Do not forget the O-ring

On these engines the fuel filter housing carries a water in fuel sensor, and that sensor seals with its own O-ring, part number 129574-55780. It is a cheap part that is easy to overlook and a common cause of an air leak or a weep after a filter change. If yours has been disturbed or is flattened and hard, replace it while you have the filter off. We stock it, and it is listed with this filter.

Water is the enemy

Diesel injection equipment is lubricated by the fuel that passes through it, so water both breaks down that lubrication and corrodes precision surfaces. Water gets into tanks through condensation and through fuel taken on at unfamiliar docks. Drain any water trap regularly and change the filter on schedule.

Fitting

Replace at the interval in your Yanmar operator’s manual. Lightly oil the new sealing ring, hand tighten until the gasket seats, then tighten the additional amount specified in the manual. Bleed the fuel system following the procedure for your engine, then run it and check for leaks and for air in the system.
